Our first Black History Month Celebration: Fashion for the Culture WAS A SUCCESS!
This event was to celebrate the contributions & achievements of Black Influencers & Creatives in Toronto!
As someone who has been in the creative field for a few years now in Toronto, I’ve always noticed that we are missing a huge part of the community. I’ve always had a dream of bringing us together, meeting one another, and making changes in the industry. I was able to partner with Toronto Metropolitan University & TMU Fashion Zone for this amazing experience.
We started planning this event at the end of January, we had a limited time to get this event in action but I was able to pull it off! I went straight to Pinterest to come up with the idea and a concept. I really wanted it to be bold prints and colors. I reached out to a few local vendors I have previously partnered with such as @balloon.treats @velvetlanecakes and @eatcops.
I was determined to make this event more than just an ordinary gathering. My goal was to establish a space where Black influencers and creatives could convene and network and share their experiences with each other in Toronto.
On the day of the event, the energy in the room was amazing. The venue was filled with influencers, digital creatives, social media experts, and marketing specialists from all over. The highlight of the event was the opportunity to introduce and mingle with black creative influencers in the industry.
We organized a panel discussion between Brian Richards @barstyling – the Fashion Manager of the Innovation Studio and myself. I was able to share my experiences and stories of being in the Social Media Industry, discussing both the challenges and opportunities that I have encountered. Furthermore, the best part of the event was seeing how many of us came together to celebrate Black culture and Black creativity at its finest.
I hope that we can use events like this to make meaningful changes. As we’ve seen in recent years, the Fashion Industry has a long way to go when it comes to diversity and inclusivity. By coming together and showcasing our talent, we can push for change and create a more equitable space for everyone.
It was truly a blessing to support our diverse community and showcase our influence and the incredible talent we have here in not only Toronto and the GTA but Canada. Thank you to everyone that came and made it a night to remember.
